Before collecting your sample, we recommend that you carefully read through the instructions in the leaflet that you will find with your test kit. Check that all components are present and that you understand the instructions. You may also find it useful to read through our FAQ about improving blood flow to your finger before you follow the steps below.
Registering your kit at www.register.srw.co is an important first step to ensure that you receive your results. If you don’t register your kit then you will not receive your results. SRW Laboratories cannot refund or replace your test you if you post it to us without registering it.
The instructions for collection are:
- Wash your hands in warm soapy water, then dry thoroughly with a clean towel. Use the alcohol wipe to clean your preferred finger for collection, the let it dry.
- Prick finger with lancet – twist the top of the lancet to remove the cap. Align the lancet against your chosen fingertip and press firmly down to activate the lancets internal spring (expect resistance before it activates). This will puncture the skin. Wipe away the first drop of blood with the gauze pad.
- Collect sample – starting at the centre of the circle, apply 6-9 drops of blood onto the blood spot card so that the circle is filled and soaked through.
- Apply plaster whilst you wait for the card to air dry.
- Leave card to dry for at least 3 hours and protect it from moisture and direct sunlight during this time.
- Seal in bag – once dried, tuck the cover into its front flap to protect it. Place the card into the biohazard bag and seal it, ensuring there is as little air in the bag as possible.
- Place the biohazard bag into the pre-paid envelope and return it to the laboratory by dropping it off at any post office or mail drop-box.
