You can take some steps to prepare for the test and reduce the chances of feeling any discomfort
It is normal to feel apprehensive about using a blood prick lancet, but you can take some steps to prepare for the test and reduce the chances of feeling any discomfort:
- Make sure that your fingers are warm before doing the test, this will make the sample collection process easy and reduce any additional anxiety. If your hands are cold this can cause discomfort and make it harder to collect the sample.
- Take the sample from the sides of the tip of your ring finger, not the top. There are fewer nerves and more blood vessels along the side of the finger and the ring finger is the best finger from which to draw blood.
